Created as an homage to my desert ancestors, I focus on the historical significance of Indigenous southwestern tribal adornment culture and the perpetuation of those adornment practices perpetuated into the 21st century. Our bones, flesh and blood are made up of the metals, liquids and minerals of the earth and everything on this planet is made up of the same things. As humans we have being, so everything on the earth does too in our culture, because we are made of the same thing.

Venaya Yazzie a.k.a VeejayYazzgrl

Ya'at'eeh.

Venaya was born in Shiprock, New Mexico on the sovereign Navajo Nation. She is a member of the eastern Diné reservation at Huerfano, NM and carries her father's Hopi lineage from Arizona. She is a painter.poet. & photographer who perpetuates the Art-way in the region of the Four Corners and San Juan valley communities. Yazzie is alumnus of: Institute of American Indian Arts (A.A.) , Fort Lewis College (B.A. English) and University of New Mexico where she earned a M.A. in Education & American Indian education.
